DESTINATION MEDVEĐA: Basic Strategic Document for Cultural Heritage Promotion and Interpretation

This document serves as a foundational guide for the integrated conservation, promotion, and sustainable development of Medveđa’s cultural and natural assets. Its scope encompasses the identification of key heritage sites, the establishment of interpretation standards, and the creation of a multi-year roadmap for tourism product development and stakeholder collaboration.

The project, titled “Destination Medveđa: Crafting the Basic Strategic Document for Cultural Heritage Promotion and Interpretation”, is a 3-month peer-to-peer exchange between the lead organisation Architect Aleksandar Radović Foundation (AARF) from Serbia and the Albanian Centre for Education, Tourism and
Entrepreneurship (CEAPAL).

It aims to create a foundational strategic framework to establish and promote cultural heritage and tourism in the Municipality of Medveđa, leveraging its rich cultural assets to drive local development. The initiative is financially supported by the European Union, through the Tirana office of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) within the “Culture and Creativity for Western Balkan’s” project (CC4WBs).

The “Culture and Creativity for the Western Balkans” (CC4WBs) project, funded by the European Union, is focused on fostering dialogue in the Western Balkans by enhancing the cultural and creative sectors for increased socio-economic impact. Over a 60- month period, the CC4WBs project aims to improve the performance of the cultural and creative sectors in order to enhance skills, knowledge, access to financial aid to increase competitiveness and sustain co-production and circulation of goods and services in the Western Balkans.

CONSERVATION STUDY OF VILLAGE GOSTUŠA IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF PIROT

“Gostuša”, also known as “stone settlement” is located in South-East Serbia in the area of the Nature Park “Stara planina”, and it represents a unique mountain village. The most of the buildings are build in the second half of the 19th century and during the 20th century. Extraordinary connection between the nature and architecture managed to survive in its original form for more than one hundred years. The village was almost abandoned in the 1970’s.

The main research aim was to collect and prepare set of documents in order to protect the cultural heritage, the unique environment and intangible heritage, in the terms of the Law.

The overall results are: prepared documents which ensure further existence of authenticity of the houses and other facilities, and urban matrix of the village, and unique connection between nature and manmade structures in new modern use of village. Documents gathered and published in the Study represent basics for greater plan – rehabilitation of the village.
