CONSERVATION STUDY OF VILLAGE GOSTUŠA IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF PIROT

“Gostuša”, also known as “stone settlement” is located in South-East Serbia in the area of the Nature Park “Stara planina”, and it represents a unique mountain village. The most of the buildings are build in the second half of the 19th century and during the 20th century. Extraordinary connection between the nature and architecture managed to survive in its original form for more than one hundred years. The village was almost abandoned in the 1970’s.

The main research aim was to collect and prepare set of documents in order to protect the cultural heritage, the unique environment and intangible heritage, in the terms of the Law.

The overall results are: prepared documents which ensure further existence of authenticity of the houses and other facilities, and urban matrix of the village, and unique connection between nature and manmade structures in new modern use of village. Documents gathered and published in the Study represent basics for greater plan – rehabilitation of the village.
